W. Mich. doctor kicks off campaign to beat ebola

(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A doctor in West Michigan is kicking off a campaign to help beat ebola in Liberia.

Dr. Manjerngie Ndebe started the non-profit organization Christian Global Medical Healthcare, with a goal to help expand access to health care in the U.S. and other countries around the world.

She says they will continue fundraising efforts from now through November, raising money for everything from protective clothing to netting, to the creation of safe drinking wells.

"We know that there is no direct cure for ebola, but you can medicate the complications that come with ebola, diarrhea, fever, with hydration and good nutrition," Dr. Ndebe said.

In the meantime, doctors with the World Health Organization say they are now treating the first confirmed case in Senegal.

It's the fifth country in West Africa to be affected by an outbreak that has killed more than 1,500 people.
