Volunteers pack 50,000 meals for hungry children
DOUGLAS, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - 120 local volunteers came together to package more than 50,000 meals to feed hungry children.
Kids Against Hunger is a humanitarian food organization working to reduce the number of hungry children locally and around the world.
Saturday morning, volunteers gathered at the Community Church of Douglas to put together highly nutritious casseroles that are easy to package and save for a long time.
"It's very nutritious; it has rice, soy, vitamins, and minerals in it, and dehydrated vegetables; it's very nutritious," said Chuck Bailey, with Kids Against Hunger. "Each one of those bags will serve 6 adults and as many as 12 children. You boil it in water for a few minutes and you have a very nice meal."
