Vigil for mother killed in gas station robbery

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Friends and family held a vigil where a mother of three was stabbed to death while working at a Citgo gas station in Battle Creek.

"We all miss Nikki and we will. And we all want you to know that we thank every one of you for being here today," said Kennedy Gallihugh.

Visitation and funeral services are this week.

Police arrested 30-year-old Shawn Pike for the murder. He was arraigned last week and ordered jailed without bond.

He'll be back in court next week.

Family and friends say they will do everything possible to get Jessica Heerenga's Law passed.

"It's time to stick together as a community and get out legislators to pass this law that know one at any of these gas stations should work by themselves."

A second man has been jailed on charges of being an accessory after the fact.
