Upton dispatches challenger, will face Dem. Paul Clements in Nov. election

(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Long-time Congressman Fred Upton has won his primary in the 6th District, and will be on the ballot in November.

The 61-year-old Upton, of St. Joseph, defeated 46-year-old Jim Bussler.

Upton has been in the House since 1987, and was widely considered a shoo-in to win the primary.

He now faces Democrat Paul Clements in the November election.

Clements is a political science professor at Western Michigan University.
