UPDATE: New information released about the death of a Norton Shores police officer

Michigan State Police release their findings in the investigation into the crash that claimed the life of Norton Shores Police Officer Jonathan Ginka.

ROCKFORD, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) -Investigators this morning issued an update in the death of Norton Shores Police officer Jonathan Ginka.

Officer Ginka died after crashing his police cruiser into a tree while on duty in May. His death was caused by the injuries he sustained during the wreck.

Investigators with Michigan State Police have officially ruled his death an accident. We're told that it remains unclear exactly what caused the crash, but several factors have been ruled out.

Investigators found that Officer Ginka was traveling about 46 mph when he crashed into the tree. We're told he did take his foot off of the accelerator and he hit the brake before the accident. Investigators found that Officer Ginka was not using his cell phone or responding to an emergency call at the time of the crash.
