Two boaters pulled from Keeler Lake in Van Buren Co.

VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Michigan State Police have confirmed that two boaters have drowned on Keeler Lake Saturday night.

On Monday officials identified the two men as 45-year-old Douglas McIntyre of Decatur and 64-year-old Robert Novick from Evergreen Park, Illinois.

Just before 7:30 p.m. Saturday, troopers were dispatched to Keeler Lake, in Van Buren County, on a report of a drowning. Upon their arrival, the deputies were flagged down by the caller, who reported that two friends had gone out onto the lake, and were yelling to him for help.

Troopers were directed to the southwest corner of the lake, where they located a capsized boat about 75 yards from shore.

Troopers were able to locate and recover both victims, and get them to shore, where first responders began life saving efforts.

One victim was taken to Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital, in Dowagiac, while the other went to Lakeland Hospital, in Watervliet.

State Police report the victims were pronounced dead at the hospitals.

The victims have been identified only as a 45-year-old Decatur man, and a 64-year-old Evergreen Park, Illinois man. The men's names are being withheld, pending family notification.
