Trial pushed back to September for Kelli Stapleton

BENZIE COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The trial for a mother accused of trying to kill her daughter and herself has been rescheduled.

The trial for Kelli Stapleton was scheduled to begin Wednesday, but it has been moved to September 3 to give the defense more time.

Stapleton is charged with attempted murder in Benzie County.

Police say she lit charcoal grills in a van while she and her 14-year-old daughter Issy, who suffers from a severe form of autism, sat inside.

Police found the pair unconscious, but both have since recovered.
