Teen who crashed into Tobacco Shoppe in critical condition

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The driver who crashed his SUV into a tobacco shop in Battle Creek remains in critical condition Friday morning.

Police say 17-year-old Trevor Preston Long accelerated through the intersection of Riverside and Columbia Avenue without braking, crashing into the Tobacco Shoppe.

Long was air-lifted to Bronson Hospital with head injuries.

The owner of the Tobacco Shoppe says their check-out center is destroyed but he's thankful no one was inside when the car came through.

"Not to lose business I have two employees and me so I don't know how this is going to work out or how long it's going take," said Joe Garmo.

The investigation into the crash continues. A Battle Creek police lieutenant says they are trying to rule out whether Long's Rav-4 is under a Toyota recall for sticking accelerators.
