SUV hit by train in Portage, one person hospitalized
PORTAGE, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Portage Police confirmed Tuesday that an SUV with three people inside was hit by a train on Garden Lane, near Celery Flats.
We’re told the SUV was traveling east, and stopped at the railroad tracks on Garden Lane. The driver then began to proceed through, and was struck by the northbound train, on the rear passenger corner of the vehicle.
Police say the passenger said they didn’t hear the train, or see the lights.
There were three people in the vehicle. The driver and one passenger were uninjured. A 22-year-old passenger, who was in the back seat at the time, was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
