Suspicious death: Body found in the trunk of a vehicle in Battle Creek

1 P.M. UPDATE: Battle Creek police have a person of interest in custody in the investigation of a body found in a vehicle trunk in Battle Creek.

Police were called to Tigers Towing early Monday after the body was found by the vehicle owners. The owners had arrived at the towing yard, at 111 S. Kendall St. in Battle Creek to retrieve the vehicle.

Tow company officials told police that the car had been discovered abandoned on private property, and the owner of the property asked that it be removed.

After the body was discovered, police received several tips that lead them to a home at the intersection of Parkway Drive and Somerset Avenue in Battle Creek. After police arrived, the person of interest offices wanted to speak to ran, but he was apprehended.

Police said the death is considered suspicious. And, they are serving a search warrant at a home near the intersection of Campus and Plymouth roads in Battle Creek.

The Battle Creek Police Department’s Detective Bureau began investigating after officers were called to Tigers Towing at 9:40 a.m. Monday. The owner of the vehicle discovered the body.

In a written statement on the incident, police said there is no reason to believe there is any danger to the community.
