Suspect to be arraigned in home invasion with machete

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A man accused of trying to break into a Battle Creek apartment in the middle of the day with a machete is in jail and has been identified.

It happened on Dahlia Drive, near Beckley Road over the weekend.

Witnesses say the man was yelling that "he had something for them" -- and was asking for someone who didn't live in the apartment.

When the woman, who lives there with her children, told him to go away, she says he went to the back and tried to open a window screen.

Police arrived with guns drawn and found the man hiding in a storage building.

"It has me shaken up pretty bad. Middle of the day on Sunday morning, it wasn't at night. I don't know, I don't know if he was on drugs or drunk or what, but it has me shaken pretty bad," said Heather Firestine.

Police say the man also had two large duffel bags filled with items stolen from a nearby Walmart in Emmett Township.

The suspect will face shoplifting and home invasion charges. He has been identified as Christopher Lee Taylor.
