Hurricane Harvey spins deeper inland, total damage still unknown

The hurricane has been downgraded to a tropical storm, but the damage was significant in parts of Texas. There was at least one confirmed death in Rockport, Tex., and Houston has faced catastrophic flooding from effects of the storm. Locally, American Red Cross volunteers are making their way down to Texas to help with relief efforts.

Moon eclipses the sun, for a while, in Kalamazoo -- and the people enjoyed the show

From the time it made landfall in Oregon to its departure in South Carolina, millions grabbed their eclipse viewing glasses to experience the astronomical phenomenon nationally. For those in West Michigan, the moon blocked 83 percent of the sun for a few minutes Monday afternoon, and folks who were outside enjoyed the show. Here is a state-by-state breakdown from the first solar eclipse in over 30 years.

Christopher Lockhart pleads guilty to bond violations, sentenced to time served on those charges

Christopher Lockhart, a Portage man whom police consider a person of interest in the disappearance of his wife, pleaded no contest to two bond violation charges Wednesday morning in the 8th District Court in Kalamazoo. Following the plea, District Judge Vincent Westra sentenced Lockhart to time served on the two bond violations.

Local man with autism opens vacuum repair shop in Kalamazoo

Tyler Williams said for as long as he can remember, he’s been taking vacuums apart and putting them back together again. With the help of his friends and neighbors, he’s opening his very own used vacuum sale and repair shop.
