Study: Many Americans too scared to take vacation

(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A new study shows Americans are too scared to go on vacation.

According to the U.S. Travel Association and market research firm GFK, about 40-percent of Americans do not plan on using all of their paid time off this year.

The two most common reasons people give are dreading the pile of work that will be waiting for them when they return and because no one can do what they do at the office.

Another interesting reason is that 20-percent of workers do not want to look replaceable.

The amount of Americans taking vacation is at historic lows, according to the study.

Back in the 1970s, about 80-percent of workers took a weeklong vacation every year.

Now, that number had dropped just a little bit more than half.
