Steve Zegree, former Gold Company director, dies of cancer
(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Indiana University confirms the death of Steve Zegree, 61, who died of pancreatic cancer in his Indiana home this morning.
As the former director of Western Michigan University's Gold Company, Zegree was with the school for more than 30 years before joining the music program at Indiana University in 2012.
Gold Company won various "Outstanding Performance" awards from Down Beat magazine while under Zegree's direction. He was also the founder of WMU's The Steve Zegree Vocal Jazz Camp, held every summer.
Zegree was inducted into Down Beat magazine's Jazz Educator's Hall of Fame in 2012.
