Two residents escaped a house fire in Kalamazoo early Sunday morning.

Kalamazoo Township Fire Department responded to the area of Lake Street and Dupont Avenue around 5:30 a.m., and the back of the house was on fire upon arrival.

Two tenants who live at the home were able to make it outside before crews arrived.

How the fire started is unknown at this time.

There is heavy smoke damage to the back of the house, and no one involved was hurt.
