Public hearing to discuss missile defense system at Fort Custer
AUGUSTA, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - There is another public hearing Thursday night to discuss the possibility of a missile defense system coming to West Michigan.
The Fort Custer Training Center in Calhoun County is one of four sites where a new missile defense system could be built.
The goal of the system is to protect the United States against attacks from enemy missiles.
Some fear it would make West Michigan a target for enemy attacks.
Local officials say it could bring nearly 1,800 jobs and pump billions of dollars into the local economy.
Thursday night's public hearing is from 6:00 to 9:00 at the Sherman Lake YMCA in Augusta.
