Several shots were fired in a Kalamazoo neighborhood on Monday afternoon that resulted in a standoff, which ended with two men arrested.

Witnesses told Kalamazoo police that a man was arguing with people in front of his house, fired a shotgun into the air several times, and went back into his house.

Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety was called at 12:43 p.m. and several officers found out where the man lived in the 800 block of Staples Avenue. They surrounded the house and talked the man out.

Police arrested two men, a 29-year-old Kalamazoo man and a 35-year-old Kalamazoo man, at the end of the standoff and, through a search warrant, found a stolen shotgun.

The 29-year-old was arrested for an outstanding warrant and could face charges of possession of a stolen firearm, reckless discharge of a firearm, felon in possession of a firearm and possessing a firearm while intoxicated.

The 35-year-old was arrested for charges of domestic assault.

Both were taken to the Kalamazoo County Jail.
