Person of interest in Erik Cross killing sentenced for domestic violence

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A person of interest in a decades old cold-case was sentenced on a different charge in Kalamazoo County on Monday

Brent Spaulding sentenced to 5 months for a domestic abuse charge.

Spaulding was charged earlier this year after police say he broke into an ex-girlfriend's home and attacked her, knocking her to the ground and fighting while holding her down.

Spaulding had little to say when before he was sentenced.

Judge: “Is there anything you would like to say before sentencing?”

Spaulding: “I've been in a long time, I can't wait to be free.”

He remains a person of interest in the 1983 murder of Erik Cross.
