Pedestrian struck, killed by train in Marcellus
MARCELLUS, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) —
The Cass County Sheriff's Deparment responded to a pedestrian and train crash in Marcellus.
Upon arrival to the scene, 27-year-old Logan Lamons of Marcellus was found dead. According to witnesses, Lamons was walking on the sidewalk southbound on Burney Street, looking down.
Witnesses said the railroad gates were down, the gate bell and red signals blinking and the train was signaling its horn in excess to gain the attention of Lamons, who appeared to have been distracted by music playing through his headphones.
The train activated its emergency brake and was able to come to a stop just over a mile from the crossing.
The accident remains under investigation.
