Murder suspect arraigned in Kalamzoo courtroom

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Two men appeared in court Monday afternoon to face charges in the death of a Kalamazoo teen last week.

Both men are now in KDPS custody. They are being held in connection with the murder of 19-year-old Chris Adams.

KDPS tells us 18-year-old Daquan Pritchett turned himself in to police Sunday night.

Officers believe he shot and killed Adams last Wednesday in the 3200 block of Mount Olivet Street.

On Monday Daquan Pritchett was arraigned on charges of open murder and felony firearms. He was denied bond. Pritchett is scheduled to be back in court for a preliminary hearing on August 7th.

We've also learned another person, Tyler Bishop, has been arrested for assault with intent to murder and felony firearm charges also connected to the shooting.

We spoke with KDPS officials Sunday about the increase in violence this summer, including this murder, and they tell us they are committed to bringing people to justice.

"The people who reside in the City of Kalamazoo deserve better. The quality of life has been and will be better than this and we are going to bring bad people to jail, I assure you of that," said Lt. Stacey Geik of KDPS.

We've got a crew at the court house. They will be there as both men are expected to be arraigned. We will keep you updated.
