Mother of child murderer loses child abuse appeal
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The mother of Kent County's youngest convicted killer lost her appeal.
Anita Lawhorn was convicted of abusing her son, Jamarion Lawhorn, in May 2013 and sentenced to a year in jail and five years of probation.
Lawhorn’s attorneys said that the child abuse statute on which she was convicted is too vague, overly broad and it is impossible for a normal person to know where the line is between legal corporal punishment and abuse.
The Michigan Appeals Court upheld her sentencing.
Jamarion fatally stabbed a 9-year-old boy at a Kentwood playground in 2014 and he was found guilty of first degree murder.
Jamarion is being held at a juvenile program.
