More Mich. children to qualify for free or reduced meals
LANSING, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - More Michigan children will qualify for free or reduced price meals at schools across the state.
Friday, the Michigan Department of Education announced new household income guidelines to determine who is eligible.
Children from families with incomes at or below 130 percent of the federal poverty line are eligible for free meals and milk.
That's an income of about $30,000 for a family of four.
Those with incomes between 130 percent and 185 percent of the poverty level are eligible for reduced price meals.
The new guidelines will stay in effect through next June.
