More gun deaths than motor vehicle deaths in Michigan
(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The Violence Policy Center finds that gun deaths are more frequent than motor vehicle deaths in 17 states, including here in Michigan.
More than 90 percent of American households own a car, while less than a third have a gun, which means Americans' exposure to motor vehicles outweighs exposure to firearms.
Yet in 2013, the number of deaths by each were close, with a difference of about 2,000 more motor vehicle deaths.
In Michigan, there were just over 1,100 gun deaths, compared to just over 1,000 motor vehicle deaths.
