“It is with a very heavy heart that I confirm the death of one of our own, Tpr. Timothy O’Neill,” said Col. Kriste Kibbey Etue, director of the MSP. “I ask that you please keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers in the difficult days ahead.”

O'Neill was on patrol on his department motorcycle around 7:45 a.m. Wednesday, when he was involved in a crash near the intersection of Wolverine Boulevard Northeast and Belding Road Northeast in Plainfield Township. No one else was injured, and the crash remains under investigation.

O'Neill, 28, graduated from Western Michigan University in 2013 and enlisted with the MSP in January 2014, graduating as a member of the 126th Trooper Recruit School. He served at the Rockford Post his entire career. O'Neill was set to be married on October 7.

Michigan Governor Rick Snyder responded to the announcement on Twitter saying, "[O'Neill's] loss will be felt throughout our state."

A Michigan State Police trooper is in serious condition following a crash Wednesday morning in Rockford, according to police.

The accident happened at Wolverine Boulevard North East and Belding Road Northeast. The trooper was injured while driving his motorcycle.

The intersection is partially blocked off at this time.
