Mich. AG tells Enbridge to reinforce pipelines in Strait of Mackinac
(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The Michigan Attorney General has told Enbridge Energy to reinforce its pipelines in the straits of Mackinac.
Attorney General Bill Schuette and the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality sent a notice to the company that it is not in compliance with its agreement with the state.
That agreement limits the distance of unsupported pipelines that are more than 60 years old.
In 2010, an Enbridge pipeline burst, spilling nearly 1 million gallons of oil into the Kalamazoo River.
The Michigan Petroleum Task Force, formed by Schuette and the DEQ last month, aims to take a closer look at the pipeline issues across the state.
