Man sentenced for failing to file income tax returns, fraud scheme
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A former St. Joseph County man was sentenced Friday for failing to file income tax returns and committing a fraud scheme.
45-year-old Freeman Reed was sentenced to 87 months--or more than 7 years--in federal prison.
Prosecutors say he didn't pay taxes for almost 10 years, and lived an extravagant lifestyle.
He also admitted to committing a gold scheme.
He says he convinced people to invest in uncovering gold bars, buried in The Philippines.
