Man passes out driving after suffering severe coughing fit

TALLMADGE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A driver in Ottawa County is lucky to be alive after he passed out behind the wheel and crashed into a tree.

Michael Ray Stewart, 60 from Sparta says he was driving east bound on I-96 when he suffered a severe coughing fit and blacked out.

His vehicle left the road and struck a tree not from the Ironwood Drive exit.

Ottawa County Deputies say they received several tips from other drivers of Stewart on the road trying to flag down help.

He was uninjured, but checked out at the scene just to be sure.
