LARA suspends license of West Michigan psychologist sentenced for fraud
STURGIS, Mich. —
A West Michigan psychologist punished by a federal judge for over billing patients, is now being penalized by state regulators.
The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs says Sturgis psychologist George Compton Junior will have his license suspended because of his recent felony conviction.
The I-team spoke with patients in December who say Compton contacted them and admitted he over billed them for thousands of dollars of appointments that never took place.
The calls to patients came shortly after he was sentenced for fraud in Grand Rapids U.S. District Court. He pleaded guilty to healthcare fraud.
The suspension of his state license comes weeks after Compton was scheduled to self-report to prison.
