Kzoo grad offering chance for Air Jordans to students who stay in school

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The new school year is right around the corner for many students and a Kalamazoo Public Schools graduate is trying to make a difference this year.

James Mattox is starting a new program this year called A's for J's. It's an incentive program based on the grades high school freshmen get on their report cards at Kalamazoo Public Schools.

Students who gets A's on their report cards get to enter a raffle for a chance win a new pair of Air Jordan shoes. B's will earn the student a chance to win a $50 gift card and C's get a chance for a t-shirt.

Mattox is funding the project by himself. He says it "just shows them hard work pays off. You work hard, you get rewarded and that's in life in general. You bust your butt in anything and you take off and you stay focused, you will succeed."

Mattox also says he's working on a tutoring program for students in connection with Western Michigan University.

For more information, head to Mattox says it will be up and running by Monday.
