Fire near Kalamazoo's Bronson Hospital extinguished, residents evacuated

According to officials, residents occupying the home were able to evacuate prior to officials arriving on scene. When they did arrive, flames were showing out of the top floors of the building. UPDATE at 3:45 p.m. -- KDPS responded to a fire located at 724 Burdick Street after receiving a call around 1:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

According to officials, residents occupying the home were able to evacuate prior to officials arriving on scene. When they did arrive, flames were showing out of the top rear of the building. Firefighters were able to contain the flames to the top floors and prevent the fire from spreading. It took officials around four hours to fully extinguish the fire.

No injuries were reported in the incident and the cause of the fire is currently unknown. A resident was home at the time but was able to escape with his pets safely.
