Kalamazoo man joins officers for part of run to support Special Olympics Michigan

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A Kalamazoo man is lacing up his shoes and heads to the upper peninsula to join officers on part of their 750-mile relay across the state in support of the Special Olympics of Michigan.

Wednesday, 20-year-old Julian Borst, of Kalamazoo, joined Officer Jeremy Walleman, Trooper Jim Yeager, and Sergeant Mark Bunting in running five miles across the Mackinac Bridge.

It was part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run, that helps raise money and awareness for the Special Olympics.

The relay is expected to reach Lansing early Friday morning, and end on Belle Isle Friday afternoon.

Borst is just one of 56 Special Olympic athletes representing Michigan at the 2018 Special Olympics Games in Seattle next July.
