Kalamazoo Co. Sheriff to speak out following NTSB report on bike tragedy
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Newschannel 3 will sit down with the Kalamazoo County Sheriff today to talk about a recently released federal report on last year's Kalamazoo County biking tragedy.
Five bicyclists died, and four others were seriously hurt in last summer's crash.
NTSB investigators claim better communication between police could have stopped the tragedy before it happened. But the Sheriff's office, public safety department, and police don't agree.
In a joint statement, they say they have steadfast support for their dispatch workers, and they worked closely with the NTSB to: "be more comprehensive in their investigation."
"Despite our efforts the NTSB came to far reaching hypothetical conclusions; this alone is a disservice to all stakeholders involved in this incident," they added.
Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller is talking to us about the report in more detail today.
We'll have a full report tonight on Newschannel 3 at 5.
