Judge to decide on life sentence for Kalamazoo teen
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Friday, a Kalamazoo judge is expected to decide whether or not a Kalamazoo teenager will spend the rest of his life in prison for murder.
Dallas McDade Junior was 17 when he was sentenced to life without parole for the shooting death of Eric Jenkins in July of 2010.
But the conviction was overturned last year after a Supreme Court ruling found that sentencing youth offenders to life was a form of cruel and unusual punishment.
McDade's attorney says he deserves a chance at parole one day.
Prosecutors say he should be in prison for life.
