Judge orders mental competency hearing for accused Berrien Co. killer
BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A judge has ordered a mental competency hearing for an accused Berrien County killer who claims the murder was part of a suicide pact.
James Huffman told police he was supposed to kill his girlfriend Anglea Cluver first, and then himself.
He admits he strangled her at a home in Niles almost a month ago.
He turned himself in to police days later, saying he couldn't go through with killing himself.
Prosecutors say it is possible he may never stand trial for the murder.
