Ice Bucket Challenge sweeping the internet

(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - An out of the ordinary fundraiser called the Ice Bucket Challenge is now sweeping across the internet.

"If you dump the bucket on your head you donate an amount of money that is lower than if you don't dump the bucket. You're penalized for not being fun, and not being part of the game," said Chris Dessi, CEO of Silverback Social.

"When we first did this we didn't want money; we just wanted people to throw buckets of water on their heads to generate awareness," said creator Jeanette Senerchia.

Jeanette Senerchia and her niece started the challenge to raise money for ALS research.

Jeanette's husband suffers from Lou Gherig's Disease.

So far they've raised over $2,500 to give to researchers at Columbia Presbyterian.
