Hundreds come out to Trader Joe's for the grand opening
OSHTEMO TWP, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) —
Patience will come in handy if you're thinking about heading to the new Trader Joe's grocery store.
The grand opening is today, and the store is already busy with excited customers.
One issue that has become apparent is shopping carts are hard to find, because so many people have shown up for the grand opening.
Doors opened at the new Trader Joe's at 8 a.m. this morning. This is the first store to open in the Kalamazoo area and the second in West Michigan, with the other store being in Kentwood.
The 13,000 square-foot store is located on Century Avenue near the intersection of South Drake Road and Stadium Drive in Oshtemo Township.
Happy customers are buying some of the stores signature items such as the popular cookie butter and the famous Two Buck Chuck, the store brand wine which sells at $2.99 per bottle.
Hundreds of customers have already come in and out of Trader Joe’s in the first few hours of this opening. One dedicated customer was first in line at 6:30 this morning.
She said she is excited, because she no longer has to travel to get to her favorite grocery store.
“I buy like 20 bags anytime I'm in Grand Rapids, Chicago, Detroit, Ann Arbor,” Caitlin Brown, the first customer in line at Trader Joe’s in Oshtemo Township, said. “I buy tons and tons and today, I'm just going to buy like 10 things, because I can come tomorrow and the next day and the next day and the next day.”
The area in Oshtemo Township -- where Trader Joe’s opened -- quickly grew over the past couple years. Trader Joe’s joins numerous other businesses in the area off Century Avenue.
