Horseshoe association holding state championships

PORTAGE, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Organizers hope it's a lucky weekend for horseshoe throwers in Kalamazoo County.

The Michigan Horseshoe Pitchers Association is holding its 91st annual state championships at the Kalamazoo Area Horseshoe Club, on the grounds of VFW Post 1527 in Portage.

Organizers expect 100 players to take part. There are cash prizes for winners in five divisions. Clayton Champion of Galesburg, who helped build the course in 1982, is trying to win his third championship in the elders division.

The championship runs through Monday. Admission is free.
