GVSU establishing new program to help low-income vets pursue higher education

ALLENDALE, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A local university is establishing a new program to help low income veterans in their pursuit of higher education.

Grand Valley State University's Trio Veterans Upward Bound will provide a wide range of free academic support services to veterans in Kent, Ottawa, Muskegon, and Allegan counties.

The program is funded through a $1.3 million federal grant that will be used over a five years to help 125 veterans each year.

GVSU joins Detroit's Wayne State University as the only Michigan universities to offer the Trio VUB program.
