Gas station clerk robbed at gun point in Battle Creek

A gas station clerk was tied up and robbed at gun point and now, deputies are searching for the people responsible.

CALHOUN COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A gas station clerk was tied up and robbed at gunpoint at a gas station in Calhoun County.

The 25-year-old clerk was working alone at the Mobil gas station at 820 W. Michigan Ave. in Springfield. He told NewsChannel 3 he was trying to close up just before midnight when a man walked into the store. He thought the man wanted to buy something.

"He turned his back to the male and he was pushed against the cooler wall back here," said Sgt. Kevin Callahan, Calhoun County Sheriff's Office.

An employee tells us he reviewed the surveillance video shortly after the robbery.

"He fell on the floor, they had the guns up to his head," said employee Raymond McNeil.

Sgt. Callahan says they believe the men were carrying semi-automatic handguns. They were wearing sweatshirts with the hoods pulled over their heads; one had a fluorescent vest.

They took the clerk behind the counter, pushed him onto his stomach and tied him up.

"The males presented the gun to the clerk, told him if he didn't turn the money over they would kill him," said Sgt. Callahan.

The clerk tells us they grabbed his wallet, cell phone and thousands of dollars from the store.

"It really showed me how it would take effect on a person, you know? The aftershock because don't nobody want no guns up to their head. I know he was scared," McNeil said.

The men took off and the clerk managed to call 911, but he remained tied up until a deputy arrived.

Two K-9 units were brought in but they couldn't track down the robbers.
