Former DJ appears in federal court on sex charges
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A former christian contemporary DJ has been officially charged in federal court on two charges.
According to court documents, John Balyo was charged with sexual exploitation of a child, and possession of child pornography.
The U.S. Attorney's office alleges that back in mid-April that Balyo knowingly coerced a minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct for purpose of producing pornographic materials, and states that Balyo himself produced images of a roughly 12-year-old boy.
It was further alleged that in early June, Baylo knowingly possessed images of child pornography, including some that involved "prepubescent minors."
Balyo was an on-air personality for WCSG, and was also charged with two counts of felony criminal sexual conduct in late June.
Federal officials say Balyo rented a storage unit in Plainfield Township, and inside they found kids clothing, costumes, duct tape, handcuffs, and chains.
