SAN FRANCISCO (NEWESCHANNEL 3) - A former Kalamazoo County man found beaten in San Francisco is on life support Wednesday morning.
Friends of Bryan Higgins tell us he grew up in Comstock Township but had since moved to San Francisco.
According the San Francisco Bay Guardian, Higgins was brutally beaten over the weekend.
Police are considering the attack an attempted homicide, saying it appears he was beaten with a deadly weapon.
Higgins was part of a community called the Radical Faeries. It's described as a group of gay men looking for a spiritual dimension to their sexuality.
At this point police have not said whether they are investigating this incident as a hate crime.
Higgins is currently on life support.
According to the Guardian, he is expected to be taken off of life support at 3:33 Wednesday afternoon.
A family member has released this statement:
At this time the family would like to keep private yet we want to express our extreme gratitude for the kindness and support. Bryan "Feather" Lynn Higgins was a very spiritual, kind, caring, loving individual and we are all sad that he has been taken from this earth far to soon. We appreciate the fact that people want to help and with that we also want to have respect for everyone...Hate crime is horrible...losing someone so special is even worse...so please understand that we want to keep this matter private. We want to thank everyone for their prayers and understanding.
