Fatal officer involved shooting in Kentwood
KENTWOOD, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A 47-year-old Kentwood man was shot and killed after pointing a handgun at Kentwood Police.
It happened just after 11pm Wednesday, October 21st.
Kentwood Police say they were called to the 1400 block of Hidden Valley in the Sutton Club Apartments for a suicidal subject. The call was made by a concerned third party.
According to a release from the police department, two officers responded to the apartment and attempted to make contact.
They say the subject eventually exited the apartment and confronted them in the hallway at which time they say he raised a handgun in their direction and they were forced to shoot.
Medical assistance was called to the scene but life-saving attempts were unsuccessful.
The officer, a 6-year veteran of the force, was not injured in the incident.
The names of the officer and victim are being withheld pending the outcome of the investigation.
