Fallen Comstock Fire Chief Ed Switalski honored by state association
PETOSKEY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A West Michigan fire chief killed in the line of duty has been given a huge honor.
The Michigan Association of Fire Chiefs named Ed Switalski the Fire Chief of the Year for our state.
It's an honor his fellow chiefs say was well deserved.
They tell us the Comstock Fire Chief was in the running for the award even before his tragic death.
The Michigan Association of Fire Chiefs recognized Switalski at their yearly meeting Wednesday night, in Petoskey.
Friday will mark one month since Chief Switalski was killed while responding to a crash on I-94.
While he was only in Comstock for four years, Switalski served as a firefighter for more than 30, and was dedicated to educating people about and protecting them from fire dangers.
