Driver injured in hit and run crash, suspect on the loose

One man is injured after he is hit from behind on the highway. State police tell us his car rolled over and the suspect took off.

Michigan State Police is searching for a driver accused of hitting a car on the highway, and taking off.

It happened on I-94 eastbound east of South 4th Street near Mattawan around 2:30 a.m. Thursday.

Michigan State Police tell us a car was hit from behind and the driver lost control, hit the barrier and flipped into the median. After the crash, troopers say the car started smoking. Our crew on scene saw some fire damage on the car.

The driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, and is expected to be OK. Troopers tell us his injuries would have been far worse if he was not wearing a seatbelt.

MSP says the suspected driver drove away after the crash. Anyone who might have seen something regarding the crash is asked to call Michigan State Police.
