Driver arrested, woman critical after crash in Ravenna
RAVENNA, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - One woman fights for her life and another person is behind bars, accused in a chase and crash in Muskegon County.
Michigan State Police said at 5 p.m. Tuesday, a trooper was westbound on Heights Ravenna Road in Sullivan Township when he spotted a pickup truck matching the description of a car stolen minutes earlier out of Muskegon Township.
The trooper turned his patrol car around and tried to pull over the driver, but MSP said the truck did not stop and tried to speed away.
After following the suspect, the trooper said he stopped the chase and lost sight of the pickup.
Then minutes later MSP said the suspect crashed into another car at Heights Ravenna Road and Main Street. Witnesses told troopers the suspect ran a stop sign and hit a car, which then crashed into a third car.
Two people were taken to the hospital, treated and released. A third passenger, a 34-year-old woman, was airlifted to the hospital and is now in stable, but critical condition.
Troopers said the driver of the stolen truck eventually crashed into a utility pole at that same intersection, and took off running. An MSP K9 tracked the suspect and the 37-year-old from Muskegon was arrested.
Michigan State Police will continue their investigation.
