Construction work causing backups -- extra police patrols -- on Battle Creek streets
A heads up for drivers in Battle Creek, road closures and construction are causing some traffic backups. And the Battle Creek Police Department has promised, at least in one area, to get more involved in ensuring that drivers follow the caution signs.
A major road closure is in the southbound lane of Minges Creek Place at Beckley Road, and will continue through Friday. The Bronson Medical and Imaging Facility is going through some work that requires the closure. The facility is planning to install a new MRI machine, and will be removing the old one this week.
During the work, southbound traffic on Minges Creek Place will be rerouted. The closure will cause delays, so work crews are advising drivers to use a different route. The work is expected to be finished Friday.
In another area of town, police have promised to keep an eye on traffic near the intersection of Capitol Avenue N.E. and Emmett Street. Because of road construction there, vehicles traveling north or south on Capital are temporarily prohibited from making a left-hand turn onto Emmett Street.
However, department officials said in a Facebook posting, police have received a number of complains about drivers making left-hand turns anyway.
So, the department said, it will be doing extra enforcement patrols in the area.
