Congresswoman introduces act to tax sugar in pop

WASHINGTON, D.C. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - If you like pop, you won't like this proposal.

A Connecticut congresswoman has introduced the Sweet Act, which would institute a national one cent tax on every teaspoon of caloric sweetener in soda, like sugar or high fructose corn syrup.

That means you would pay about 10 cents extra for a can of pop, or twenty for a 20-ounce bottle or medium sized soft drink.

The money from the tax would be used to fight obesity and diabetes.
