Colon school district responds after report of sexual assault on bus
COLON, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A school district is responding tonight after an investigation was prompted about a sexual assault on a school bus in Colon.
According to police reports obtained by Newschannel 3, a teenage boy is accused of inappropriately touching a 6-year-old girl back in April.
Interim superintendent Ginny Kowalski issued a statement to Newschannel 3, saying she's aware of the allegation, but claims it only involved other early elementary school students.
Her statement goes on to say:
the board and administration have cooperated fully with local law enforcement in the investigation of this incident and have provided the evidence in the district's possession.
The superintendent says measures have been taken to prevent this situation in the future, and "we take this situation very seriously as the safety of our students is extremely important to us."
Interviews with parents and law enforcement records obtained by Newschannel 3 dispute some of the information in the superintendent's statement.
We will follow this story as it develops.
