(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Newschannel 3 salutes Korean War veterans on the 61st anniversary of the Korean War armistice agreement.
On July 27, 1953, the United Nations and North Korea signed an agreement for a ceasefire and the creation of a demilitarized zone between North and South Korea.
Sunday, a ceremony was held in South Korea, with more than 100 war veterans and their families in attendance.
West Michigan veterans also gathered the veterans' memorial in Portage.
Korean War veteran Herb Kenz says, "Having had the experience spending time in Korea, I'm a better person for it. I have a better understanding of what goes on in the real world. That's a good one, yeah."
More than 100,000 United Nations troops were killed or went missing during the Korean War.
