Several cattle are killed in an overnight barn fire in Hopkins.

HOPKINS, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Multiple cattle are killed in a barn fire in Allegan County.

Flames broke out at the barn on 16th Street near 128th Avenue around 2 a.m. Thursday morning. Crews say the barn was fully engulfed when they arrived on scene.

Hopkins Fire Chief Tim McKinnon tells us there were cattle inside the barn when the fire broke out. A number of them were killed but it is now clear how many. There were no people inside the barn at the time.

The fire started in the front of the barn and spread from there. The roof collapsed from the flames. The barn is now a total loss.

The chief tells us they think the fire was electrical but they will continue to investigate.
